How to dress for your upcoming Session!

Tips on how to style:

I get tons of question about how to pick outfits for your sessions. These opinions are mine (so take that for what it's worth when reading)…these are some ideas on what I feel like will help make the most of your session with me. Every photographer has a different style and feel to their images…These ideas are what I feel like help reflect my style the best!

I love a rustic natural look to my images. And usually shoot in rustic locations/farm settings.

And PLEASE! ASK ME FOR HELP…I often look at pictures of clothing ahead of time and help clients make decisions. That is OKAY! I love when clients put time into their clothing before our session together.

-  I love rich and more muted tones. I don’t love pastels or super bright colors. Not to say those don’t fit sometimes…but usually for my style especially in the fall…rich and darker tones are best! Example would be instead of pink to do blush. Or instead of light green do a deep sage.  Darker tones usually photograph better and look much better on skin tones!

-   I LOVE dresses for women and girls…I feel like they just add a special touch. I know not everyone loves a long flowy dress…but my opinion is dresses really stand out so much better in pictures.

-    Add in a simple pattern with one person…example would be a floral pattern for a child or in mom’s dress. But mainly keep solid colors for everyone else. Pops of patterns or stripes are great…but not for everyone in the family. Or it will get way too busy! So pick one person to bring in the pattern!

-    Accessorize with hats, earnings, simple hair bows for girls, extra layers of jackets in the fall.

-    Don’t forget shoes!!! They may not seem important but a bad pair of tennis shoes on a great outfit will ruin it. Especially for men…

-     For dressing girls: Dresses, layers, simple patterns if they fit in with the other outfits. Don’t order sizes they can grow into…order what they fit in! You don’t want shoulders falling off dresses and constant pulling clothing up during the session. Buy it to fit them now. Add in small hair bows for color. If you have multiple girls I love for them to not match with the exact same dress or outfits...Make them stand out on their own with different dresses or colors.

-     For dressing boys: I love denim shirts, suspenders, khaki shorts/pants, overalls. Think classic for your little guys!

-     For dressing women: Long dresses…wear it to fit you! And make sure you feel AMAZING in your outfit. Layers help add dimension. Add in simple jewelry, like earrings. Make sure to do your hair and wear a little extra makeup. Make yourself feel special! You won’t regret it!

-     For dressing men: Denim shirts and button up shirts are great. Darker jeans if wearing jeans. Don’t forget to add in some dressy type of shoe or a boot for rustic settings…Just avoid tennis shoes or flip flops. Think classic rustic feel for guys. Adding in jackets or layers for men is great too!

-  Tones and Colors that go well together:

Natural Tones: Tans, Browns, Mustard yellows, and rust

Rich tones: Deep teal blues, Rust, Mustard, Creams

Spring or lighter colors: Blush, Creams, tans, Maroons, Teals or pale blues

Others: Rust, Teal, Brown, Creams, Burgundy
